High Tech High Information Session / Open House – Sunday, September 30

High Tech High is one of New Jersey’s best high schools and is available to Hudson County residents. Find out more about this school at the open house this Sunday, September 30 from 11:00am to 2:00pm. It’s a rigorous school in high demand, so expect a big crowd and get there early! Application deadline is October 26, 2018.

For more information on the session, see the LCCS website’s Page on High Tech High, and check out High Tech High’s Admissions website, too.

What’s for lunch at Jersey City public schools…and how do I pay for it?

Parents, working with the Jersey City Board of Education (JCBOE), have been advocating for a new food services contract between school years with the goal of improving the quality of the food served in schools.  Lunch menus are available here. School lunch menus are also usually sent home with students each month.

Along with a new provider, there will also be a new payment system, called My School Bucks, which will replace last year’s PayForIt payment system.  But don’t worry, if you have a balance remaining from last year, just create an account at My School Bucks, add your children to your account, and your existing account balances will appear automatically!  We just signed up, and it’s pretty straightforward.

Aside from lunch, all students are offered breakfast every morning at no cost.  Students signed up for the Casper after school program and extended day programs are provided with snacks at no cost as well.

Many students are eligible for free or reduced cost lunch.  For the 2018-2019 school year full price lunch is $2.90. Check the JCBOE Food Services Department page for more information about the discounted lunch form/application.

Early dismissal on first day of school due to “extreme heat”

Message from Jersey City School District:

“We are excited about the first day of school tomorrow, September 6! We are also concerned about the extreme heat–so Jersey City Public Schools will dismiss students tomorrow at 12:45. School starts at regular time. There will be no Jersey City Arts program. Teachers will be dismissed at 1PM.”

Jersey City Public Schools Registration

How do I register for preschool for the first time?

I’m new to Jersey City – where do I register for school?

Can I register for any school or just the one in my neighborhood?

I have heard about selective middle schools and high schools. Where do I apply?

Can I still register for preschool?

These are valid questions. Find out answers to these questions at Jersey City Ed’s Public School Registration Info page!
