Your Assigned School
Find out your home school by calling 201 915 6111 or 201 915 6201. Or apply for open enrollment, which is a limited opportunity to attend a school that is not your assigned home school. Requests are only granted if space is available and it promotes the desegregation of Jersey City public schools.
What You Need for Registration
- 2 Proofs of Address (electricity or phone bill)
- Proof of Age (birth certificate)
- Immunization Record
- Valid ID
- Transfer Card from prior school
- Transcript or most recent report card, if available
- Child must be present
Preschool (Pre-K 3/4)
Regular Jersey City public preschool registration for Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 is typically in March of the prior school year. A dual language program is also available. Call Early Childhood at 201 915 6045 for more information.
Elementary / Grammar / Middle School (K-8)
You can register at your assigned school’s office 9am-11am and 1pm-2:30pm Monday through Friday. If your child is 5 years old by October 1, then you can register for Kindergarten. Check the JCBOE Registration Information page for online registration and call 201 915 6201 for more information.
High School (9-12)

Students New to the United States
Students entering Jersey City who are arriving from another country must first go to the Multilingual Intake Center, regardless of your child’s primary language.
